Do you know what WIIFM means?

Everyone wants everything NOW!  Not just you and me, I’m talking about EVERYONE.

Why do you think diet pills are a million businesses? We want instant gratification. NO work, NO exercise, just melt away the fat away.

This same philosophy is what everyone seems to want in the security business. They want INSTANT results with NO work.

Well, it does not work that way. You have to have a good security program; you have to have someone on board that understands the requirements of the NISP – National Industrial Security Program and other safeguards to prevent unauthorized disclosure of classified information and how to restrict clearances based on Need to Know and you have to have management’s support.

If you make sure that your security program meets all of the requirements of the National Industrial Security Program operating manual and you have a Facility Security Officer (FSO) that understand the general requirements of the NISPOM, you won’t have be in a panic when you have your security assessment by the Defense Security Service.

A few suggestions to assist with your DSS security assessment:

  1. Make sure your Personnel security files are in order.
  2. Have your Corporate forms readily available. i.e. 441,441-2 328, 381-R, KMP,
  3. Perform at least 2-3 security briefings per year
  4. At least 2 Self- Inspections during the year
  5. All Periodic Reinvestigations for those that are due, are initiated in JPAS
  6. Make sure your Contract List is update
  7. Full Accountability of classified Inventory ( Access List)
  8. OPSEC
  9. Review DD254’s for special briefings or handling
  10. Review JPAS Personnel listing for discrepancies
  11. Have FSO training certificates available
  12. Holding/Sponsoring security related seminars
  13. Able to provide proof that inspections of personal effects were completed.
  14. Provide Security education to your uncleared employees.

WIIFM?  WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME?

A sense of relief, that your security program is in compliance and that you are adequately protecting classified information.
