Why You Need the Services of an Independent Security Consultant

Maybe, you haven’t thought much about employing the services of a security consultant, where your security program is concerned.  After all, your security program seems to be in compliance. You’ve got a software program in place to track your clearances, your documents are accounted for, and you have a JPAS account, and all of the usual tools set up to prevent compromise of your Personal Indentifiable information, so what else is needed?

Regardless, of what you think, you are not in compliance; what is missing?  A security education program.  With all of the above items in place, it would still behoove you to hire a security consultant, to assist with your overall security program. You might want to utilize an independent security consultant’s services more often, to cross-check your security program with the NISPOM.

Why would you consider a security compliance consultant?

First, once the primary set up is in place, sometimes the FSO becomes complacent. Or, maybe your company is small and you have multiple roles, i.e. growing your company!

NISPOM updates might get missed, or be miss-understood. Your Security staff would possibly not be aware of some of latest changes, or security trends. Maybe they’re not fully up to speed on the most recent efforts from the Industrial Security community, i.e. NCMS or ISAC. And anyway, a regular fresh set of eyes on your security program can make a difference, in your DSS assessment rating.

Second, not all compromise comes from the outside, and if you are facing an internal threat, the worst source is not having a security briefing or security refresher briefing in place.  Most employees, do not want to report adverse information to their managers, especially if the president of the company is also, functioning in the role of security.

Did you know that hiring a security compliance consultant, would actually help your bottom line, without bearing the cost of hiring somebody with those talents full time.

Did you know that at Security First & Associates, we not only understand Industrial Security and the Intelligence Community personnel security processing procedures, we are actual security consultants hired by Department of Defense contractors to provide guidance with facility & personnel security clearances, eQip, JPAS, establishing and auditing security programs nationwide.
